Reports have emerged this weekend that the second autopsy performed on former Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan has shown that he died of multiple head injuries, and not due to an exploding mobile phone, as was originally claimed.

An unnamed family member told the online portal The Malaysian Insight that the second autopsy found no injuries that were consistent with an explosion, a conclusion that has been reached by officials at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, when the first autopsy was performed last June.

“We were told that the cause of death was multiple head injuries and not injuries caused by a blast.

“We were also told that the autopsy report has been sent to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further instructions,” said the source.

Nazrin’s shocking death on June 14, 2018, made headlines, and caused an outpouring of condolences from much of Malaysia’s start-up community who at one point or another, had come into contact with the popular individual. What initially seemed like an unfortunate accident took a more serious turn, after police reported that traced of petrol were found in and around the victim’s body in the Mutiara Damansara home he shares with his wife and two stepchildren. News then emerged that the CEO had reportedly received death threats in the months leading up to his death.

Police then re-classified the case as murder, and between then and now, several individuals linked to the case have been arrested, but no charges have been pressed. These include his wife, Samirah Muzaffar, her two teenage sons, and her first husband.

Samirah has steadfastly denied any wrongdoing.

After conflicting reports on his cause of death, his brother, Dr. Malek Hassan, filed a police report doubting the first postmortem findings.

No public announcement on the second autopsy’s results has been made.
