Prime Minister Najib Razak insisted last night that he had no qualms about receiving criticisms on his performance, but asked for his critics to pass him constructive critiques, not just brickbats.
Bernama reports that Najib, speaking at a buka puasa banquet at his official residence of Seri Perdana, with students of public and private learning institutions, insisted that the Federal Government’s policies and undertakings were all thought through thoroughly with the people’s benefit in mind, and not carried out arbitrarily.
He scoffed at his critics who claim to find fault with his administration, but do not offer better alternatives to his approach.
“(Criticisms) say it is not right but does not say what is right.
“Dispute saying that the government has no deals, if there are no deals which government can build many universities…how to implement development for the country,” he said.
Najib has been under fire for his performance on a number of fronts, particularly in the handling of sovereign development fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad, which is reportedly RM42 billion in debt.
The PM’s willingness to engage in open discussion with his critics has also come into question, as he withdrew from appearing at the #Nothing2Hide forum with NGOs in UMNO’s PWTC headquarters in KL on June 5.
The #Nothing2Hide forum was also attended by former PM and Najib’s most vocal detractor, Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Najib did not attend following police warnings that the event was not safe and would jeopardise “national harmony”.
Mahathir took the podium in Najib’s stead, and began criticising Najib’s performance as PM before bing asked by police officers at the scene to stop and was escorted off stage.
