Man runs amok, damages Hindu temple in Ipoh

A man ran amok in Ipoh yesterday evening, reportedly destroying several statues at a Hindu temple there.

The Star Online said that police have arrested the man, whom a temple committee member say ‘did not appear to be of sound mind’.

According to the report, the man had unlocked the gates to the temple and parked his car in the compound sometime around 5pm yesterday.

“Our assistant temple priest said the man was holding a machete. He then took a metal rod from his car and started breaking the nine deities of the Navagraham (nine planets),” the unnamed committee member was quoted as saying.

He then allegedly started breaking the decorative statues at the main diety area. The main altar had been locked and out of his reach.

“The priest called the temple committee members and we immediately alerted the police,” the portal quoted him as saying.

He was arrested soon after the incident when he met with an accident after leaving the temple.
