KL produces 25% more solid waste during Ramadan

While the Muslim month of Ramadan is supposed to be a time for self-relfection, humility, and patience in the face of adversity, KLites seem to not have gotten the full memo.

According to the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Goverment Ministry, the city of Kuala Lumpur produces 25% more solid waste – translating into 3,000 tonnes – during Ramadan every day.

Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan told Bernama this figure doesn’t even take into account the surplus food wasted at Ramadan buffets offered at hotels and restaurants across KL.

He also said that Alam Flora, which conducts cleaning works at 108 out KL’s 167 Ramadan bazaars, calculated that 140 tonnes of solid waste were produced from the evening food markets daily.
