Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s claim that Christians are collaborating with a group of Jews to “Christianize” Malaysia has shocked the Council of Churches in Malaysia (CCM).

CCM general secretary Rev Jonathan Jesudas emphasized that carelessly made utterances of this nature often lead to racial and religious tensions and conflict.

He went on to say that authorities needed to handle the situation in order to prevent future instances of such flagrant contempt for the truth and religious sensibilities.

“This statement is not only untrue but (it) is irresponsible of a politician of his standing to make such a statement, which is carried and widely viewed on social media and the public,” said Jesudas.

“We live in a multi-religious and multi-racial country and the sensitivity of each community must be taken into account when addressing public forums,” he said in the statement, which was released today.

A video of Muhyiddin giving a speech asking people not to vote for Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) has been doing the rounds on social media.

The current head of Bersatu and former prime minister labeled PH a “huge threat.”

He claimed to have read about a video in which a Jewish group was talking about Malaysia.

The meeting, according to him, discussed Malaysia slipping into the hands of the opposition, which would fund Jewish and Christian organisations.

“To me this is dangerous,” he said.

“Does this mean that there will be a process of Christianization taking place?”

“And we have heard this account before, have we not?” said the former federal home minister.

Muhyiddin went on to say that on Sundays, Malays visit churches in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. It appears that they have converted to Christianity, he remarked, noting that it was an uncommon development.

Muhyiddin further emphasised that these groups’ goals and long-term plan are to turn Malaysia into their “colony.”

Meanwhile, Rafizi Ramli, the vice president of PKR, said the party would be lodging a police report and filing an election petition against Muhyiddin for violating the 1954 Election Act.

“PKR Youth chief Adam Adli will lodge a police report so that an investigation can be initiated against Tan Sri Muhyiddin.

“Regardless of the election result in Pagor, PKR will be filing an election petition because he has clearly violated Section 4A of the Election Act,” he said in a press conference at PKR headquarters, here today.

Under Section 4A of the Election Act, anybody who makes a statement that promotes feelings of ill-will or hostility between persons of different races or classes during an election in order to sway voters can be imprisoned with up to 5 years in jail.
