We’re pretty sure you, like most right-thinking Malaysians, have had it up to here with all the religious strife, misunderstandings and mistrust that’s been going around lately.
SarongGate, teachers telling kids to drink their own pee, not being able to say the word A***h if you don’t belong to a certain club … it’s a mess. Which is why you should probably hed over to the Ramadan Interfaith Dialogue happening tomorrow night at the Katha Room in Universiti Malaya’s Centre for Civilisational Dialogue (UMCCD).

The interfaith dialogue, titled “The Power of Fasting: Purpose and Benefits”, will feaure panelists the Venerable Kumara Khikkhu of the Sasanarakkha Buddhist Sanctuary, Rev.Clarence Devadass of the Kuala Lumpur Archdiocese, V Kandasamy of the Malaysia Hindu Sangam, and Khalina Normaiza Khalili from the Centre for Advance Studies in Islam, Science and Civilisation.
The talk is perfect for Muslims of various faiths to reacha consensus on fundamental teachings of their religions, as it will talk on the act of fasting – certainly not just a Muslim tradition, and not only relevant during the month of Ramadan.
Registration begins at 5pm, and the event will run from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. Being a talk on fasting held iduring Ramadan, there will of course be food for those who wish to break their fast, and vegetarian dishes will be available for those who have meat-free observances.
The event is open for all, but those interested are encouraged to notify their intention to attend by e-mailing shahreen@um.edu.my or dialog@um.edu.my.
