Heading out for Bersih 4.0 this weekend? If things get a little out of hand, don’t worry — three churches in the city have offered their space for rally-goers to seek refuge.
Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur Julian Leow said in a statement, as reported by Malaysiakini, that while the offer stands, the church itself was ‘not aligned to any political organisation’.
“It is in this great spirit of compassion that the Catholic Church has decided to allow St John’s Cathedral in Bukit Nanas, St Anthony’s Church in Pudu and Fatima Church in Brickfields to be places of sanctuary during Bersih 4,” he was quoted as saying.
Bersih 4.0 will be held at 2pm on Saturday for 34 hours in a bid to demand Prime Minister Najib Razak’s resignation over his handling of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad controversy.
