Indonesia’s Independence Day on August 17 is always a big celebration of the ol’ red and white, and one of the most important ceremonies of the day is the flag raising ceremony at the State Palace.
This year, for the first time in history, the flag raising ceremony with President Joko WIdodo will be livestreamed to the internet through Youtube. And not only that, according to a press release from the State Palace, the whole event will be streamed using 360° video technology to make the experience extra immersive.
The flag raising ceremony will start at 10am on August 17 and can be seen on Jokowi’s official Youtube channel.
The State Palace’s partnership with Youtube is the latest in the president’s attempts to connect with younger citizens through technology and social media. Last week he met with a group of young Indonesian Youtube stars to talk about the issues they are facing and how they perceive the government.
