Three people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a young chef in Jakarta, which police say was motivated mainly by jealousy.
Police say a 38-year-old woman who goes by the initial L contracted two hitmen, DR and MYL, to murder 23-year-old chef FF. The victim was found dead with stab wounds in her abdomen at a cemetery in Ulujami, South Jakarta on Thursday.
Police soon found and arrested the hitmen, who gave up L and said they received IDR1 million (US$70) to carry out the job. Police arrested L soon after.
At a press conference today, Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Endra Zulpan said L hired DR and MYL because she was heartbroken after finding out that her girlfriend was seeing FF.
“This made the primary suspect [L] jealous,” Endra said.
FF also recently borrowed and returned L’s motorcycle in a bad state, which tipped the suspect’s anger towards the victim over the edge.
L and her hitmen have been charged with premeditated murder, which could see them face life imprisonment or the death penalty.
