Ya-Udah Bistro in Menteng takes down racist sign about refugees after social media outrage

There are polite ways of conveying house rules to your customers, and then there’s Ya-Udah Bistro’s way.

The restaurant, which is located in Menteng, Central Jakarta, came under fire on social media recently for this tasteless sign that was put up on their premises. A photo of the sign went viral on Facebook and Twitter with many condemning it, specifically its comments about refugees.

Rappler today reported that the sign was taken down yesterday. We contacted Ya-Udah this afternoon for confirmation, but the woman on the phone, who said she works as the cashier at the bistro, refused to comment about the sign.

Ya-Udah’s management and/or owners are not yet available for comment.

We hope to get an official confirmation soon and perhaps a statement of apology from Ya-Udah Bistro. It’s truly a shame that an establishment well-known in the capital for the quality of its food stooped so low by exhibiting such racism.
