XL launches 4G mobile network trial in Jakarta

Cellular provider PT XL Axiata just launched the trial for its 4G Internet in Jakarta. The supposedly high speed Internet service is called Real Mobile 4G-LTE (does this imply that Bolt’s 4G service is a lie?).

“The launch of the mobile 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) service is a special gift for XL’s 18th anniversary, we hope this can be useful for people,” said XL’s President Director Hasnul Suhaimi at the launch event in Jakarta on Tuesday.

For now, XL customers can experience 4G Internet for free in three Xplor Center shops in Jakarta: Kota Casablanca, Central Park Mall, and Senayan City Mall.

The 4G service will gradually reach all of Jakarta and eventually other cities.

XL worked in partnership with Huawei and Ericsson to bring 4G Internet to Indonesia. They claim the service can reach speeds of up to 100mbps. The trial will run until May 15, 2014, before XL widens its 4G service.

Newly elected Minister of Communications and Information (Menkominfo) Rudiantara was at the launch and welcomed the new product, while also spurring on other providers to provide 4G Internet service.

With so much competition on the horizon, perhaps this is why Bolt lowered the prices of their data plans recently.
