It seems that everything the Jakarta City Council (DPRD) has done in their dispute with Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama regarding irregularities in the Jakarta Regional Budget (APBD) has been far removed from the actual substance of the issue.
Now, the DPRD is planning to summon Ahok’s wife, Veronica Tan, to appear before them as a witness in an inquiry session next Monday.
Ahok criticized DPRD’s latest play.
“Why summon [my wife]? What’s the problem? If it’s about budget inquiry, why summon my wife? What does she have to do with it? They have created a special kind of inquiry just to summon the governor’s wife,” Ahok said at City Hall yesterday, as quoted by Merdeka.
That said, Ahok won’t prevent his wife from going to the DPRD.
“It’s ok, we’ll wait for the summon. I can summon the wives of the DPRD as well, dong,” he said.
Previously, the head of the Inquiry Team at the DPRD, Ongen Sangaji, said they would summon Veronica Tan in regards to the budget inquiry, but did not reveal much else.
“We will summon the governor’s wife. There is a lot of context, you can see later,” Ongen said yesterday.
