Anyone from the Greater Jakarta Area commuting to the capital proper must, starting today, have a Worker Registration Certificate (STRP) in hand, with checks for the document already set up at most public transportation facilities.

The STRP requirement was introduced as part of the government’s bid to limit mobility throughout Jakarta and its satellite cities, particularly by enforcing curbs on businesses in non-essential sectors who have been violating work from home orders during the Emergency Enforcement of Restrictions on Public Activities (Emergency PPKM).

Companies that operate under the critical or essential sectors can apply for STRPs for their employees via the JakEvo online registration platform. Individuals may also apply for STRPs for access to Jakarta for emergency matters, including for pregnant women, and those visiting sick relatives and those attending funerals.

While STRP is ostensibly required for all entry into Jakarta, including on private vehicles, the focus of today’s enforcement has been on public transportation, with authorities checking for the certificate on passengers of the KRL, MRT, LRT, and TransJakarta and refusing entry to those without it.

Drivers of ride-hailing apps must also possess STRP if they are to cross between the borders of Jakarta and its satellite cities. They may cancel ride orders from passengers who want to travel between the cities but do not possess an STRP.

The STRP requirement is valid for at least as long as Emergency PPKM is in effect, the latter of which is ending on July 20 pending an extension.
