Woman found floating dead in river inside Bogor’s Botanical Garden

A gruesome find was made over the weekend in Bogor’s lush Botanical Gardens – the body of an unidentified woman floating dead in the water of the Ciliwung River.

Shocking as it is, this is not the first time a body has been found in the river flowing through Bogor’s celebrated gardens. Police say that, since 2004, six bodies have been found under similar circumstances.

“This is not the first time something like this has happened, as I recall it occurring six times since I started worked in the Botanical Gardens in 2004,” said Aiptu Agus Setya Budi, the commander of the garden’s security team, as quoted by Antara

Agus said bodies have been found at various points along the Ciliwung contained within the botanical gardens. He said the bodies probably came from outside the gardens and got caught on the rocks while floating downstream.

Bogor Police Chief Commissioner Victor Gatot echoed Agus, saying that bodies regularly appear in the river of the Botanical Garden, but that it was unlikely they were visitors to the popular tourist site.

Although this latest woman’s body has still not been identified, she has already been buried by Bogor’s Social Service division in the the city’s public cemetery.
