Woman drowns in river and disappears, locals say the White Crocodile Queen took her

An albino crocodile, often mythologized as a supernatural being in Indonesia.

It’s been more than 24 hours since 38-year-old Muhayati and her 4-year-old son Fahri drowned in the Angke River in Kembangan, West Jakarta. Sadly, Fahri’s body was found, but Muhayati’s body remains missing until today.

Muhayati was driving her motorcycle with Fahri sitting behind her yesterday morning. Due to slippery road conditions, Muhayati lost control of the motorcycle and Fahri was flung into the Angke River. Muhayati then jumped into the river to try and save her son.

Unfortunately, the mother and son were unable to fight against the current and they both drowned.

Fahri’s body was found when he was caught on a fishnet yesterday. The whereabouts of Muhayati’s body remains a mystery.

But locals in Kembangan have an idea of where Muhayati’s body might be. Legend has it the Angke River is home to supernatural beings.

“There’s the White Crocodile Queen here,” said Pardi, a local who took part in Muhayati’s search operation today, as quoted by Vivanews

The locals believe the White Crocodile Queen drowns at least one victim each year. Usually, the bodies of victims would suddenly appear floating on the river’s surface the day after they went missing.

If there’s any truth to the myth, then we can expect to Muhayati’s body to appear sometime today.
