In the latest twist to the tragic tale of the tukang tusuk sate that photoshopped Jokowi into porn and got arrested for it, it looks like a powerful member of the Merah Putih Coalition is taking a keen interest in the fate of the defendant.
Fadli Zon, who is both the deputy speaker for the House of Representatives and deputy chairman of the Gerindra party spent the morning visiting the family of Muhammad Arsad, the 24-year-old sate seller who has been in policy custody since Oct 23 after he was arrested for allegedly insulting President Jokowi.
Fadli met with the family, included Muhammad’s mother Imen (who did not take her son’s arrest very well), at their home, in Ciracas, East Jakarta, 9 am. At 10:30 pm, the Deputy Chairman of Gerindra then went to Police Headquarters, to visit Muhammad.
Why is the Gerindra leader taking such an interest in the case? Well, on Wednesday, Fadli basically accused Jokowi of abusing his power by having his legal team get the sate seller arrested.
As quoted by Vivanews.com, Fadli said “There should be no abuse of power. Let no one look down on the new government, including the police,” he said.
Fadli also said that former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono never punished anybody just for criticizing him. “And what about people who bullied [failed presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto] soo many times before? Those cases must also be investigated,” he said.
Does Fadli actually care about abuses of power, or is this just a bit of political theater aimed at blowing up the issue to make Jokowi look bad? Either way, we’d be interested to see what he would do if somebody shared a picture of him photoshopped into a porn scene with Prabowo (though we definitely wouldn’t want to see that picture).
