Despite Indonesia’s harsh, often fatal, drug sentencing laws, we still seem to see a new story about smugglers trying to bring hundreds of kilos of narcotics into Jakarta every single week.
In the first such story from this week, the West Jakarta Police Narcotics Unit announced that they had seized a truck carrying 540 Kg of marijuana. They also arrested two suspects they’ve identified as Sabudin, the truck’s driver, and his accomplice Muhammad Sholeh. The arrest occurred at Pos Laka Lantas Mulya Guna on Jl. Lintas Timur.
Sabudin said he was promised Rp 75 million to deliver the weed but was only given Rp 10 million instead.
At the scene, police confiscated the truck, 16 sacks of dried marijuana weighing 540 Kg and Rp 3.1 million in cash.
West Jakarta Police Chief Kingpin Yudha told Pos Kota News the narcotics unit was still investigating the source of the drugs.
The West Jakarta Police also revealed that, between March 27 and April 10 alone, they had 6 other drug busts in which they seized 510.9 grams of methamphetamines, 4,025 pills of ecstasy, 555 kg of hashish, 1000 pils of happy five and Rp 3.7 billion in cash.
