The Jakarta Provincial Government and the Jakarta City Council (DPRD) were supposed to hold a meeting today to discuss the 2015 Regional Budget (APBD) proposal.
However, given the strained relations between the two elements of governance, the meeting never took place. While waiting for confirmation, West Jakarta Mayor Anas Effendi even took the opportunity to catch up on some sleep in the meeting room this afternoon.
Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama isn’t one to tolerate signs of laziness from his subordinates, but he made an exception in this case.
“Maybe [he fell asleep because] he watched soccer [last night]. Even I can fall asleep in meetings with the DPRD. It’s all right to fall asleep in a meeting with the DPRD,” Ahok said with a laugh at City Hall today, as quoted by Merdeka.
This isn’t the first time Anas was spotted falling asleep in an official setting. He was once caught sleeping while then-Governor Joko Widodo gave a speech, resulting in his demotion from his position as the Mayor of South Jakarta. He admitted that he fell asleep because he stayed up all night to watch a soccer game between FC Barcelona and AC Milan.
