If this doesn’t move Lionel Messi to come to Indonesia, we don’t know what will.

FIFA, the international governing body of football, has surprised many fans by posting a video featuring a song by Indonesian musician/actor Aldi Taher on its official Instagram account, @fifaworldcup. The song, titled Why Mister Messi Why, is a tribute to the Argentine superstar, who is reportedly skipping the Indonesia leg of his team’s Asia tour on June 19.

The video shows a compilation of Messi’s skills and goals with the Argentine national team, while Aldi Taher strums his guitar and sings his song in the background. We can only do its brilliance justice by writing out the song’s lyrics below:

Why you don’t come to Indonesia, Mr. Messi?
Why?
Please come to Indonesia, man
We waiting for you, bro
We love you

Why you don’t come to Indonesia?
Why you don’t come to Indonesia?
Why you don’t come, oh Mister Messi?

Why you don’t come to Indonesia?
Why you don’t come to Indonesia?
Why you don’t come? We waiting

The post also includes a caption in Indonesian, which translates to “Our brother Leo Messi”. The caption seems to be a playful and friendly gesture from FIFA to the Indonesian fans, who are eagerly waiting for the match between Indonesia and Argentina.

The video, which was posted yesterday, has been awash with comments, mostly from Indonesian netizens who are amused and proud that Aldi Taher’s song was featured by FIFA.

Aldi Taher himself commented on the post, asking, “Why you not collab my IG @fifaworldcup when you post this…this my loved song for my loved mr @leomessi taher you know…we waiting for you in iINDONESIA man ❤️”

The post is geolocked and only available to social media users in Indonesia, but we don’t doubt that the song could have moved many around the world had it been made available beyond this country.

Who is Aldi Taher?

Aldi Taher has been having quite the time in the limelight this year. The 39-year-old celeb is the grandson of Moeslim Taher, the founder of Universitas Jayabaya. He is known for his controversial and eccentric personality, as well as his musical works that often go viral on social media.

It has been increasingly hard to separate the joke from the jokester. Aldi Taher, who has been active in politics by jumping from one political party to another, including PKS, Golkar, PBB, and currently Perindo, recently stated that he is running in next year’s legislative election. However, he confessed that he wouldn’t know what to do should he secure a seat at the House of Representatives (DPR), only that he would use the platform to help spread the word of God in order to get into heaven.
