A shop attendant working at a mall in Karawang Regency, just east of Jakarta, is receiving an outpouring of sympathy after a viral video emerged showing a woman physically attacking him over a wrong purchase.
The video above is an edited version of the viral video, made by Tribunnews, showing CCTV footage of the angry shopper, who can be seen wearing a sky blue top and landing a right hook on the shop attendant, identified as Adang Ikhwan, while he had his back to her. Neither Adang nor his colleagues reacted in kind against the woman, who continued to complain angrily for the rest of the video.
According to reports, the incident occurred last Friday. The woman initially came into the store and asked the attendant to recommend a pair of headphones for her, which she then bought without checking them out first. Some time later, she returned to complain that she had bought the wrong headphones and wanted to swap them for a cheaper pair. Adang and his colleagues told her that that was against store policy, leading to the events that transpired in the video.
Adang suffered some minor cuts just behind his left ear from the woman’s punch.

The video became one of the biggest stories in the regency recently and even got the attention of Karawang’s deputy regent, Ahmad Zamakhsyari, who visited Adang at the store on Monday to show his support for him.
“This must be processed (by the authorities). She (the shopper) even made threats (against Adang) saying, ‘I’ll shoot you. I have a gun,’” Ahmad said, as quoted by Tribunnews.
Local police have not yet announced whether there will be an official criminal investigation into the incident. According to reports, the woman is believed to be from the nearby regency of Purwakarta.
Physical assault is punishable by up to two years and eight months in jail under Indonesian law.
