If you think rain is the worst thing that can happen on your wedding day, then these viral videos depicting the chaotic scenes from a wedding that took place in East Java’s Kota Batu will show you how bad a wedding party can really get.

The events in the video took place on Thursday in Kota Batu’s Giripurno Village. The videos are extremely dramatic on their own — in one a thug fights his way onto the stage and grabs the microphone to drunkenly cheer on his accomplices as they toss tables and chairs around.

But what really piqued the interest of Indonesia’s netizens was the caption included on the original viral post that claimed the man who got up on stage was actually the bride’s ex-boyfriend and that he brought a bunch of his friends to wreck the wedding party.

However, Kota Batu police officer Anton Widodo said that their investigation into the incident found that the caption on the viral videos was inaccurate and the perpetrators were not in fact the bride’s ex and his buddies but guests that had been invited to the wedding.

“Our officers have investigated and met with the bride’s family. The commotion was caused by a misunderstanding between guests,” Anton said on Sunday as quoted by Liputan 6.

According to the bride’s family, the chaos was triggered by a misunderstanding between guests involving two men falling into a hole around the wedding tent. Some other guests laughed at the sight of them falling, which caused the men’s friends to think they had been pushed in. This led to them throwing bottles of water, and then chairs, and then tables, until it escalated to the point seen in the videos.

Police said the ruckus lasted for about an hour before order was restored. They also said that the bride fainted in the midst of the chaos.

But despite the destruction they caused, officer Anton said that the bride’s family would not pursue criminal charges, explaining that they had settled the matter privately with the perpetrators. And because nobody actually sustained any serious injuries during the chaos, police said they would not pursue the matter any further.
