Here’s one of Indonesia’s finest, literally putting his body on the line in service of the force.

Recently, a video has gone viral showing a police officer lying face down and being carried on the hood of a car as it travelled quite a distance.

According to the police, the video was taken yesterday at around 11am on Pasirkaliki Road in the West Java capital of Bandung. The traffic police officer in the video has been identified as Brigadier Natan Doris E.S from Cicendo Regional Police’s traffic unit.

Before the events in the video, the car was instructed to stop by another police officer, but the driver kept his foot on the gas pedal.

“At that time, Brigadier Natan tried to stop the black car with plate number B 1980 PRF from crossing the red light,” West Java Police’s PR chief Grand Commissioner Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko told Kompas yesterday.

Brigadier Natan jumped on the hood of the car and was carried for approximately 100 meters before the car slowed down to a halt and he managed to safely get off. Fortunately, Brigadier Natan didn’t sustain any injuries.

“After the car stopped, Brigadier Natan checked the driver’s identity. There were no dangerous items found in the car, then he proceeded to ticket the driver,” Trunoyudo continued.

Trunoyudo said the driver was a 24-year-old male, who may now face criminal charges on top of the traffic ticket. The police have also confiscated his driving license, as seen in the third slide of the Instagram post by Bandung Police below:

The driver is reported to be a Jakarta resident, who’s currently enrolled in a master’s degree program at a private university in Bandung.
