Red Bull is known for sponsoring crazy, record-breaking stunts. For the official launch of Red Bull in Indonesia, the energy drink company celebrated by having four members of their Red Bull Skydive Team make history by becoming the first people to fly over an active volcano in Indonesia (specifically Mount Bromo in Central Java), while wearing wingsuits and parachutes.
The skydive team leapt out of a helicopter at 4,000 m for two jumps, one in which they wore wingsuits and flew at speeds of over 200 km/h above the smouldering peak of Bromo.
During the other dive, they unfurled an enormous 10 m x 15 m Indonesian flag while doing a freefall parachute jump.
Red Bull skydiver Dominic Roithmair told 9news.com.au, “Although I have done numerous free-fall jumps before; this one was particularly challenging because the volcano is still active. We can even see small eruptions coming off the surrounding peaks.”
