Yesterday, hundreds of angkot minivan drivers in Tangerang went on strike demanding that app-based ride hailing services be forbidden from operating in the city (yep, this again).
Tension escalated between the two groups after angkot drivers allegedly used violence against online ojeks, culminating in nasty confrontations between them throughout the city. But just how extreme the hostility became was horrifically epitomized by this viral video of an angkot minivan allegedly committing a hit-and-run on a GrabBike driver.

The video has reached GrabBike’s management, who confirmed that one of their drivers did indeed become a hit-and-run victim in Tangerang yesterday. Luckily, they said that the driver, whose identity has not been revealed, survived the incident, but is currently undergoing intensive medical treatment.
“We have reported the incident to the police while waiting for further investigation, and we have ensured that the partner driver for Grab who became the crash victim receives the treatment and care he deserves,” said GrabBike PR Manager Dewi Nuraini, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.
The Tangerang Metro Police have not released a statement regarding the incident.
Despite all of the hostility yesterday, police say they have successfully mediated a peace agreement between angkot drivers and online ojeks, whose representatives have agreed to not cause anymore chaos in the city.
