A very troubling video of a woman making a toddler drink what appears to be beer from a can has gone viral in Indonesia recently, the latest in the occasional viral content coming out from the country showing adults boasting about child neglect/abuse.

In the video, a woman, who appears to be in her 20s, is seen holding a can of beer and making a toddler drink from it before drinking it herself.

“Oh my, you young people are messed up,” someone was heard saying to the woman off camera.

“Everyone else give [toddlers] milk, [but] I’m giving [her] beer instead,” the woman said in Sundanese.

As she gets the toddler off from her lap, the woman said she gave the toddler beer so she’d get sleepy. Though the can the toddler drank from is a local beer Bintang can, there’s no way of knowing from the video that it actually contained beer.

The toddler’s mother, however, seemed to be sure that it was actually beer. The video was reportedly posted on Facebook by the mother out of anger and to shame the woman, who was her friend at the kos-kosan (boarding house) where they live.

The original video has been watched over 300 thousand times, but the mother’s account has been deleted. There have been no reports of the woman being reported to the police over the video.

This is not the only viral content to show adults being reckless towards children. Last year, adult’s recklessness such as this video is reminiscent of the “smoking baby” photo that went viral early last year. Police arrested the father in the photo, who was shown putting a lit cigarette in his infant son’s mouth, in Bangkalan regency, East Java. The mother, who took the photo, wasn’t arrested for unknown reason.
