The bad apples among ride-sharing drivers have been accused of a great many things, including sexual harassment and theft, and now it appears we can add discrimination against the disabled to that list.

Surya Putra Sahetapy, the son of famed actor Ray Sahetapy who and a member of the deaf community who often advocates for disability rights, today posted two chat screenshots of ride sharing drivers — one from GrabBike and the other from Go-Car — refusing to pick up deaf passengers, both friends of Surya, in the most repugnant way possible.

In this screenshot, the passenger asked the GrabBike driver to come get her from among the crowd since she’s deaf and she wouldn’t be able to hear his calls. The driver responded with, “Drop dead you difficult person.”

In this screenshot, the driver writes, “Just cancel [the order] you deaf person, I don’t want to drive deaf people.” The passenger then replied with a threat to report him to the police.

At the time of writing, only Grab Indonesia has responded to the viral post, saying they have contacted both the driver and the passenger in question.

“We have educated our partner driver about the incident. Right now, the driver’s account has been suspended,” said Grab Indonesia Marketing Director Mediko Azwar, as quoted by Kompas today.
