VIRAL: This ad disguised as an Indonesian kung-fu parody is pure comedy gold

First off, full disclosure, the above is an ad for Kit-Kat. And it’s actually running on our homepage sometimes (as part of a video ad network, we can’t pick which ones it shows). That means we are probably technically getting some money from Nestle somehow. And so we wouldn’t blame you for thinking this was some sneaky underhanded “sponsored content” thing.

But it’s not, we promise (we always clearly label sponsored content). We weren’t asked to write this or even given any free Kit-Kats for doing so (though if Nestle wanted to shower us with free Kit-Kats, we probably wouldn’t say no…).

Honestly, we just wanted to share it with you because we’ve seen lot of other people share it and because we think it’s really freaking hilarious – a pitch perfect parody of old-school kung-fu movies, done with a uniquely Indonesian sense of humor. The gruff-sounding hero is searching for the Pendekar Golok Emas (Golden Blade Warrior) and his travels take him to places only an Indonesian would go to find such a figure. To tell you much more would ruin the many wonderful jokes contained within.

The production company behind Kit-Kat’s ads have been killing it for quite some time now. Two years ago they also did this insanely funny parody of Kamen Rider/Ultraman, which might be just be the greatest Indonesian candy commercial of all time.

You may still think we’re nothing but corporate candy spokesmen, but we dare you to say you didn’t laugh at least once while watching either of these videos. If you can honestly say you didn’t, we’ll buy you a Kit-Kat.
