Video: Transjakarta passengers defend driver from policeman after bus crashes into motorcycle

The Busway lane is supposed to be exclusive to Transjakarta buses (and a couple of other types of buses). So whose fault is it when a Transjakarta bus crashes into a motorcycle while driving in the Busway lane?

In the video above, which was uploaded to Youtube yesterday, the Transjakarta bus had just crashed into a motorcycle on the Busway lane, though it apparently wasn’t a fatal accident. A policeman boarded the bus to have some words with the bus driver.

Though the preceding events to the video weren’t shown, it appears the policeman blamed the bus driver for the accident. The passengers, including the person who filmed the video, shouted at the policeman saying the accident should’ve been the motorcyclist’s fault.

“It’s the motorcyclist’s fault, sir! He drove in the Busway lane! Let’s take [this case] to the Jakarta Police Headquarters!” the passengers can be heard shouting to the policeman in the video.

At 00:18, the motorcyclist – who appeared unscathed from the accident – boards the bus to argue his innocence with the passengers.
“Ladies, gentlemen, excuse me but I was on a two-wheeled vehicle, this bus is a four wheeled vehicle,” the motorcyclist said, as if it was a legitimate excuse.

But the motorcyclist didn’t get another chance to defend himself as the passengers drowned him out by shouting at him.

“He wasn’t wearing a helmet, why wasn’t he ticketed?” said a passenger, pointing out another traffic violation committed by the motorcyclist.

Eventually, the policeman, who seemingly couldn’t stand all the commotion, shouted back at the passengers.

“I have the right here, I’m the officer! Everyone out of the bus!”

The policeman kind of reminded us of South Park’s Eric Cartman here (without the violence, of course):

Jokes aside, the Jakarta Police is looking into the matter.

“We’re investigating as to who the personnel in the video is,” said Jakarta Police Spokesman Martinus Sitompul, as quoted by Detik yesterday.
