VIDEO: Students turn back motorcycle against traffic to avoid getting ticket, get into head-on collision

Stupidity knows no bounds when it comes to motorcyclists going to extreme lengths to avoid getting ticketed.

Recently we’ve seen them bust down a concrete busway lane separator to avoid a traffic police checkpoint. As if destroying property weren’t bad enough, the video above shows how motorcyclists can pose a danger to themselves and other road users when they try to avoid tickets.

The first part of the news report by iTV News shows two students in Tangerang turning their motorcycle around and driving against the flow of traffic after spotting a traffic police checkpoint ahead. Their action inadvertently created a “chicken” situation with an incoming motorcyclist; only this wasn’t a game and the result was a horrific head-on collision between the two motorcycles.

Fortunately, the news report says that no one was hurt from the crash. The students admitted they wanted to avoid getting ticketed because the one who was driving did not have a license, on account of being not old enough to actually legally possess one.

Theirs is just one case among many of motorcyclists trying to circumvent the law, at the risk of their own safety and others’. In fact, the news report went on to show several other motorcyclists who also dared to turn back their vehicles against the flow of traffic on the same road.

Nevertheless, the Tangerang Traffic Police ticketed more than 800 motorcyclists for various violations that day as part of Operasi Patuh Kalimaya, a regular operation aimed at increasing “driver discipline” in Tangerang.

Similar scenes in Jakarta are also shown in the news report, the most appalling of which is arguably when a female motorcyclist, who is driving with two children who are wearing helmets, tries to turn back her motorcycle against the flow of fast moving vehicles (2:23 mark).
