The video begins with the text “My name is Azka and this is a story of a broken home kid” and a drawing of a boy with a great big smile on his face standing right beside it.
Despite the sad sounding title, “Story of a Broken Home Kid” is not a sad story – rather the video has a message about acceptance, divorce and the true meaning of family that is far more mature than one would expect from a nine-year-old boy.
Perhaps its because the boy is Azka Corbuzier, the son of famed Indonesian magician and TV personality Deddy Corbuzier. As such, he’s used to being in the spotlight and having to answer questions about his parent’s very public divorce.
To answer those questions, Azka created the above video, which has spread throughout Indonesia and into the wider web, already gaining around 440,000 views since it was released on Youtube just a week ago.
What might be most video is Azka’s understanding of the whole situation and how he doesn’t blame his parents or feel pity for himself. Frankly he seems to have processed his parent’s divorce with a lot more grace and maturity than many older children. Certainly his video touched a lot of people, with many Youtube comments expressing their support and sharing their own stories of dealing with divorce.
In Indonesia, where divorce is still something of a taboo topic, we hope Azka’s message of maturity and acceptance continues to resonate with people.
