Jakarta Vice Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said he’s aware that the construction of the city’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) subway system is falling behind schedule. Therefore, he has asked construction contractors to extend construction work to 24 hours a day.

Djarot is suggesting that the 24-hour workday be divided into four work shifts, with each shift lasting six hours. He said construction should be intensified during low traffic hours.

“It means that work during the night time can be maximized,” Djarot said, as quoted by Vivanews today.

Djarot said the MRT management agreed that construction should be accelerated. He hopes that the MRT can be finished by 2017, pushed forward from its initial completion target of 2018.

Part of the reason for this acceleration is the fact that Jakarta will be hosting the 2018 Asian Games.
