There have been several cases of people dying due to illegal, adulterated alcohol in Jakarta recently. Despite police raids on stores selling such poisonous spirits, the manufacturers that make the deadly brew have not been caught.
Vice Governor of Jakarta Djarot Saiful Hidajat said today that curbing the production and sale of tainted liquor is high on the agenda of the government and hopefully people as well.
“The eradication of adulterated liquor is the task of the provincial government, the police, and the community as well,” Djarot said today as quoted by Jawa Pos.
Djarot promised to trace the source of the adulterated alcohol. If the manufacturer is located in Jakarta, he said they would raid it and shut it down. If the manufacturers were outside Jakarta, he said he would work together with other regional authorities to make sure the poisonous brew wouldn’t kill anybody else.
