US Ambassador warns Indonesian government “to be careful” about inviting Kim Jong-un to Bandung Conference in April

Remember the exciting and terrifying news earlier this week that North Korean “Supreme Leader” Kim Jong-un may soon be visiting Indonesia as part of his very first overseas diplomatic mission?

News reports say Indonesian government has invited Kim (and 109 world leaders) to the Asian-African Conference, also known as the Bandung Conference taking place in Jakarta April 22-23, as well as the conference’s 60th anniversary recognition ceremony that is taking place in Bandung on April 24.

Having caught wind of the news, US Ambassador to Indonesia Robert Blake said he thought the 60th anniversary of the conference (which helped start the Non-Aligned Movement) was an important event to celebrate, but also warned the Indonesian government to consider how the other countries might feel about certain dictatorial invitees.

“Whether the government of Indonesia still decides to invite [Kim Jong-un] or not, remains a decision for Indonesia to make itself. However, the Indonesian government needs to be careful and take into account the reaction of the international community to countries that are internationally isolated,” Blake said at the @america cultural center in South Jakarta on Wednesday night, as quoted by Vivanews

Although Pyongyang has not confirmed whether Kim would be coming to Indonesia or not, the North Korean government has confirmed that the young despot would be attending the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union in World War II taking place in Moscow this May (which would immediately follow the Bandung Conference, which is taking place towards the end of April).

Tensions between the United States and North Korea first became heated after the release of “Team America: World Peace.” Then shit got real before “The Interview” sort-of got released last year.
