Universitas Indonesia climbs to 67th in ranking of Asia’s best universities

Universitas Indonesia (UI) is generally considered the best institution of higher learning in the country but a new ranking of the region’s best universities show that it is making strides towards becoming one of the best in Asia.

The latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking of the best universities in Asia was recently released, and UI came in at #67 on their new list, up 12 positions from 2015.

UI rector Anis Muhammad released a press statement today applauding the improved ranking but saying that it was not the sort of thing they focus on at UI.

“The rating is not our main purpose as an educational institution. We aim to produce excellent graduates and improve our quality of education, research and service to society.”

Among the indicators that QS used to determine UI’s new ranking were quality of teachers, academic reputation, number of foreign teachers and quality of facilities and programs.

Another key indicator is the number of journal publications from UI faculty and students, which rose an impressive 200% in the last year.

At the top of the latest Asia university ranking is the National University of Singapore, which also ranked #12 in QS’s global university ranking.
