Uniformed military personnel and police officers to ride the Transjakarta for free

Indonesian soldiers and police officers will soon have a new perk in Jakarta: they won’t be charged a single rupiah to ride the Transjakarta bus.

The offer is only valid for active soldiers and police officers. They are also required to sign up for an ATM card at Bank DKI.

“The Bank DKI ATM card can be used to get on the [Transjakarta] bus for free. So it can be an e-ticket for Transjakarta,” said Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, as quoted by JPNN today.

In addition, the soldiers and police officers will be required to wear their uniforms to take advantage of the deal, because the card is non-transferrable.

“They must wear their uniforms, if not we’re worried that people would lend their cards [to others],” Ahok said.

Ahok previously said that he plans to waive the Transjakarta bus fares for military personnel and police officers so they can better afford life in the city. However, it’s not yet known when the program will come into effect.

So for those of you who have a uniform fetish, things are about to heat up in the Transjakarta.
