Many say it’s more convenient to pay for Uber rides using a credit card as you’re charged the exact fare (instead of often having to round up the fare if paying by cash, should the driver not have the correct change). But this story goes to show that it pays to be attentive to the fare of your Uber rides.
One passenger received quite the shock when his credit card was charged Rp 595,000 (US$ 45.39) for a trip from Kasablanka to Setiabudi, which was initially estimated by the Uber app to cost Rp 18,000 (US$ 1.87).
It appeared that the driver, for whatever reason, did not hit the ‘end trip’ button in his app at the end of the ride. The driver went on to drive around 200 km west towards the Banten province and the fare kept rolling all the way up until it reached Rp 595,000.
Thankfully, after complaining to Uber, the passenger said that the company gave him a refund that amounted to the difference of the fares. Uber also reassured him that they have terminated their partnership with the driver in question.
Uber has not given an official statement regarding this incident.
