An unsuspecting nasi goreng seller, Selamet Riyadi, became the victim of a violent robbery when two teenagers stole his Blackberry phone and whacked him with a machete.

Selamet was playing on his Blackberry phone as he was waiting for potential customers in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, at around 2am on Saturday. It was then that the two suspects, RAD (18) and MI (19) swooped in on a motorcycle.

“RAD told MI to stop and RAD got down from the motorcycle and went up to the victim, who was playing with his phone. RAD pretended to ask for directions to Setu Babakan,” said Police Comr Husaina, head of the Jagakarsa Police Department, as quoted by Warta Kota today.

But suddenly, RAD grabbed Selamet’s phone and ran towards the waiting motorcycle. Selamet chased after the two suspects.

“RAD fell when he was being chased by the victim. As he was on the ground, he pulled out a machete that he hidden inside his shirt,” Husaina said.

RAD then whacked the victim twice, once to his left arm and once on his left ear.

The police apprehended the two suspects in North Cipete about 15 hours after the incident happened. They could face up to 12 years in prison for their crime. Meanwhile, the victim was taken to the Fatmawati Hospital for treatment.
