Two security guards bit the hand that fed them as they stole several mobile phones from the very company that employed them.
35-year-old Erick Saputra and 29-year-old Samsul Bahri worked at courier company PT Nusantara Card Semesta (NCS) in Slipi, West Jakarta. They had stolen 13 mobile phones until their arrest yesterday, after employees at the company figured out how their phones went missing.
“The suspects covered up the CCTV cameras in the office and they went in using an access card belonging to an employee,” said Darmawan, head of the Palmerah Police Department, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.
The security guards would then sell the stolen mobile phones to an unofficial mobile phone vendor in Cengkareng, West Jakarta. They admitted to needing the money to make ends meet.
“Some of the evidence (mobile phones) were recovered because the suspects still had them at home,” Darmawan said.
The security guards could face up to seven years in prison for theft.
