TrioMacan2000 admin arrested for allegedly blackmailing PT Telkom

Jakarta Police Cyber Crimes Unit apprehended Edi Saputra, thought to be the admin of controversial Twitter account @TM2000Back (formerly TrioMacan2000). Edi was arrested at a hangout spot in Tebet, South Jakarta, as he was receiving blackmail money from a PT Telkom executive.

“We arrested him as he received Rp 50 million from the victim,” Head of the Jakarta Police Cyber Crimes Unit Hilarius Duha told Detik.com today.

The arrest was made possible because a PT Telkom executive reported the potential blackmail to the police.

“After defaming [PT Telkom], in the end they [TrioMacan2000] asked for money,” said Hilarius.

Upset, the informant agreed to cooperate with the police by acting as bait.

“Initially, he [Edi Saputra] asked to meet up at a gas station, but then he changed his mind and asked to meet at his hangout spot in Tebet,” explained Hilarius.

The police then apprehended Edi after he received money from the informant.

TrioMacan2000 was a anonymous Twitter account famous for exposing corrupt politicians, like they had done to former Minister of State-owned Enterprises Dahlan Iskan. The account also spread (or created) gossip about politicians, such as the rumour that President Joko Widodo’s father was actually a Chinese immigrant named Oey Hong Liong.
