As the people who are in charge of creating and enforcing road laws in Indonesia, you’d expect Transportation Ministry officials to follow the rules as well. But recently one official has been accused of not only breaking the law, but also reprimanding the traffic officers who punished him.

A viral video that has been circulating online shows the Transportation Ministry official, identified as James by his name tag, yelling at traffic officers from the Jakarta Transportation Agency for towing his car, which is implied to be illegally parked. James can be heard using the word brengsek (the Indonesian equivalent to a-hole) multiple times while shouting at them, “do your jobs properly!”

Perhaps knowing that he did, in fact, do his job properly, the Transportation Agency officer on the right mutters, “alright, you don’t have to shout” before walking out of the room. James is then made to fill out a form by a woman, who appears to have filmed the incident discretely using her phone.

After the video went viral, the Jakarta Transportation Agency confirmed the authenticity of the video and acknowledged that the officers who were on the receiving end of James’ rant are their employees.

“The (Transportation Ministry official) has faced the secretary of the Land Transportation Directorate and he admitted his fault and expressed his apology. He will go to the Jakarta Transportation Agency office tomorrow to apologize directly to the officers (in the video),” Jakarta Transportation Agency Spokesman Hengki Angkasawan said, as quoted by Kumparan yesterday.

The agency did not say if James would face any sanctions for his behavior.
