Your long busway wait is almost over! Well, almost shorter.
The Jakarta Provincial Government is bringing a bevy of new buses to the TransJakarta busway in a few month. PT Transportasi Jakarta, the company managing the TransJakarta, say they will be adding 129 new buses this June, 51 of which will be the extra-long articulated buses.
The president director of Transportasi Jakarta, Antonius NS Kosasih, said the new buses should cut down on wait times significantly. At the moment, he said the average busway passenger must wait 15-30 minutes for a bus.
“By our estimates, [the new buses] will decrease wait times for Transjakarta passengers by 20 percent. The additions to this fleet are part of our efforts to improve the city’s bus rapid transit system,” Antonius said as quoted by Merdeka.
In addition to the 129 new busway buses, the city will also be adding 200 new Kopaja buses and 193 Busway Integrated Border Transport (APTB) buses.
These new buses should greatly improve Jakarta’s public transportation system, assuming they do not arrive rusty and broken like the previous batch of busway buses purchased by the city in an infamous incidence of corruption.
