Transgender woman caught pretending to be police officer, senior commander makes crude jokes about it online

Police in Ternate, North Maluku, recently arrested a transgender woman who they say was pretending to be a police officer in the city using a homemade uniform. Police say the woman, who was going by the name F Nurhani Alwy, is actually an immigrant from Java whose real name is Fandy Farmadi.

The Ternate Police said they are still investigating the possible motive behind Fandy’s actions, but one senior police officer in Jakarta did not wait to hear the results of the investigation to publicly shame her and make crude remarks regarding the case.

The director of the General Criminal Investigations Unit at the Jakarta Metro Police, Senior Commander Krishna Murti, posted the following images of Fandy to both his Instagram and Facebook account.

“There’s increasing interest in becoming a police officer: a fake policewoman was arrested; and after being checked it turns out he’s a WARIA (transgender)… Sorry for the actual policewoman who checked him.”

Regardless of whether Fandy is guilty of impersonating a police officer, Krishna’s remarks are definitely unprofessional and unbecoming of a police officer.

While most of the commenters on Krishna’s social media posts agreed with his crude joke, there were at least a few who took offense.

“Where are your ethics and conscience as an officer? If it was your sibling, would you want them to be treated the same way?” wrote one.
