Train station security guard gets severely beaten after telling passenger to stop smoking

People blatantly ignoring “no smoking” signs is a common sight in Jakarta, as such signs are rarely backed up with actual enforcement.

And when somebody actually does try to enforce the rules, they may get severely beaten for their effort.

A security guard at Pondok Jati  train station named Muhammad Iqbal received a thrashing from a KRL Commuter Line passenger yesterday afternoon after he tried to tell the passenger to stop smoking inside the station.

The manager of public relations for PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek, Eva Chairunisa said Iqbal suffered severe injuries and is currently being treated at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM)

“Because he rebuked a passenger who was smoking carelessly in the station area, our officer was beaten and is currently being treated at RSCM. He is in critical condition as, at the time of the beating, the back of his head hit the concrete station platform,” Eva said through a statement, as reported by Kompas

Authorities at the station immediately reported the perpetrator to the police. The perpetrator, identified by Dawn Arif, was arrested by Matraman police officers. Eva said her company stronger condemns his actions and will pursue his punishment through all legal avenues.
