Jakarta’s Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) Chief Yani Wahyu Purwoko has been reported to the Jakarta Metro Police for alleged assault on one of his officers over a disciplinary issue.
The Jakarta Metro Police today confirmed that a Satpol PP officer, identified as Wasnadi, filed a complaint that he was assaulted by his boss after he had been accused of leaking a story to the press. In the official police report, Wasnadi claimed that he was assaulted by Yani on Jan. 14.
But Yani denied the allegations, giving an entirely different version of events to the media. According to him, on Jan. 15, he heard some commotion near his office. When he went to check it out, he saw that Wasnadi was being reprimanded by a higher up for indiscipline and that he kept raising his voice when spoken to.
“He (Wasnadi) was being questioned, screaming and scaring everyone. I was only calming him down, I did not smack him, did not hit him,” Yani said, as quoted by Detik today.
“I only wanted to calm him, so I went up to him. I only touched his cheeks with my two hands and said, ’here, look at my face, if you’re being spoken to by a superior, don’t behave like that.’ That was it, and then I left the room.”
Wasnadi filed the complaint to the Jakarta Metro Police on Jan. 17. The police have indicated that they will investigate the matter.
Jakarta Vice Governor Sandiaga Uno said that the administration will not sanction Yani for now as he is to be believed as innocent until proven guilty.
“This serves as a lesson to all in the Jakarta administration to maintain harmonious relationships with subordinates. I am giving room to the police to investigate the matter,” he said, as quoted by Detik.
