The Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Police arrested three robbers in Jatinegara. One of them was shot in the leg when he tried to escape (police here seem to be really good at shooting suspects in the leg…)
The three were caught while trying to flee on Jalan Bekasi Timur near Cipinang. Once in custody, one of the suspects, nicknamed Ambon, overpowered officers and tried to escape again. His reward was two bullets in the leg.
“All of the suspects were recidivists, one suspect tried to escape, until we shot him twice,” East Jakarta Police Chief Ade Rahmat said as quoted by MetroTV.
According to Rahmat, the three suspects robbed a motorcyclist named Doddy on January 21. The victim, who was eating durian with his girlfriend in Jalan Bekasi Timur, said the three suspects approached and threatened him with sickles.
The thieves made off with the motorcycle as well as money and gemstones worth Rp 22 million.
