Local brew Bintang may not appear on everybody’s list of favorite beers, but any beer is good beer so we’re still very much saddened to hear this news.
Earlier this morning, a Bintang warehouse on Jalan Daan Mogot, West Jakarta, caught on fire. The unforgiving flames reportedly destroyed thousands of crates containing Indonesia’s most well-known brew.
Warehouse employee Opa Sanova Santanu Wijaya was among the first to spot the fire when he arrived to work at around 6:40 am today.
“The witness (Opa) reported the incident to the security post and then the police and fire department. Firefighters came soon after that, at around 7 am, and extinguished the fire,” said Grogol Petamburan Police Chief Rokhmad Hari Purnomo, as quoted by Kompas.
Sadly, much beer was lost, presumably evaporated up towards booze heaven.
The police are now investigating the cause of the fire.
