A group of children were playing on Jalan Kemanggisan Utama Raya in Palmerah, West Jakarta on Friday evening when they smelled something extremely foul coming from the side of the road.
Thinking the smell was given off by the decomposing body of a dead rat, the kids found the dead body of a scavenger instead, which was just lying there in front of a permanently closed shop.
“When found, the victim was wearing a checkered shirt and brown pants. The body was already decomposing and being eaten by maggots,” said Darmawan, head of the Palmerah Police Dept, as quoted by Warta Kota on Saturday.
The police predicted that the unidentified man has been dead for at least ten days when he was found.
The body was taken to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Central Jakarta for an autopsy.
