My preciouses…
These days, many Indonesian men take the hobby of batu akik gemstone collecting way too seriously.
A thief found that out the hard way when he was caught stealing a prized black jade batu akik from a merchant in Koja, North Jakarta.
42-year-old Sugito was caught red handed stealing the batu akik from a merchant, 19-year-old Yadi.
“When [Sugito] picked up the batu akik, [I saw that] he quietly put it into his pocket, so I called him out,” said Ocid, a batu akik merchant who owned the booth next to Yadi’s, as quoted by Merdeka today.
Sugito denied he stole the batu akik at first. But he was cornered and then searched by a group of batu akik merchants, who found the black jade in his pocket.
The batu akik merchants then wasted no time in dishing out their form of mob justice on Sugito by beating him up. Fortunately, Sugito survived the beating.
The police then arrived and arrested Sugito, who is now being held at the North Jakarta Police station.
