Indonesia’s bruising 2014 presidential campaign was seen by many as a battle between the country’s entrenched political elites, represented by Gerindra party chairman and former general Prabowo Subianto, and a new generation of reform-minded leaders represented by then Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo. President Jokowi, of course, ended up winning the election, but it looks increasingly likely that he will have to face off against Prabowo once again in 2019.

While the next presidential campaign is still quite a ways off, Prabowo and Gerindra party officials have made it clear that the ex-military man intends to run. A new survey seems to show that he would fare far better than any other potential candidate in a matchup against Jokowi today, but the gap between the two is still wide enough that the president probably isn’t sweating it (yet, at least).

The results of a poll by the National Survey Media Institute (Median) released today shows that 36.2% of respondents said they would vote for Jokowi today, while 23.2% said they would pick Prabowo.

Coming in third place in the survey is former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who managed to receive 8.4% of the vote.

None of the other candidates that respondents chose got significant support, with Jakarta Governor-elect Anies Baswedan (4.4%), Military Commander General Gatot Nurmantyo (2.8%), and Vice President Jusuf Kalla (2.6%) all scoring poorly.

However, in a bad sign for both of the frontrunners, Median said their survey showed that 40.6% of the public wants alternative candidates besides Jokowi and Prabowo.

“Currently, the public seems to want an alternative national leadership figure besides Jokowi and Prabowo, which can be seen from the 40.6% of respondents who chose somebody besides them, which is a larger percentage that chose either one of them,” said Median executive director Rico Marbun at a press conference today as quoted by Detik.

The survey was conducted September 14-22 and polled 1,000 respondents from across every province in Indonesia. The survey used multistage random sampling with a margin of error of +/- 3.1% and a 95% confidence level.
