Hundreds of newly elected Echelon III and IV officials at the Jakarta provincial government were “gifted” with a surprise drug test by Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama on Monday.
The result was overwhelmingly positive, in the sense that there were no drug abusers among them.
Three people were found to have consumed level 2 and 3 drugs, but even then they were for medical reasons.
“They (the three) tested positive for drug use, but not illegal narcotics. They consumed drugs because they were ill,” said Vice Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, as quoted by Metro TV yesterday.
That said, Djarot still has his suspicions that some government officials cheated the drug test, given that they hadn’t found a single drug offender in the two occasions they held a mass surprise drug test.
“[Maybe] there was an information leak about the urine test for after their appointments, so they’re all clean. Maybe they prepared themselves beforehand,” he suspected.
